Teaching Kids A Healthy Lifestyle
The ideas that children have about what is healthy is completely different from the adults in their lives. Until they learn what healthy foods are a kid doesn’t always make the best decisions about what to eat. Kids have to be taught that not everything that tastes great will have a positive effect on their body. The adults in their lives must take the lead and help them make the right choices.
It doesn’t do any good to tell your young ones that they need to eat right so that they can grow up strong and healthy if you are not also eating right. A child knows that chocolate makes you happy. That is a reason why he should have some. It is difficult for a child to understand that they can’t have something that they like because their body needs things that are healthy for it. Kids have a hard time believing that vegetables are better for them than candy.

Simple learning activities can increase a child’s awareness of nutrition. Memory games using pictures of healthy food choices are a good way to remind kids of what things are good for their bodies. Sensory activities involving food such as painting with pudding, making play-dough, and kneading bread use more of children’s senses.
In addition to learning to watch what they eat, children need to learn the importance of exercise. Just like adults, children should get at least one hour of exercise a day. This also can be taught at an early age. It doesn’t matter if the child is out helping walk the family dog or doing a six pack ab exercise program with their dad in the evening, the need for activity cannot be overemphasized.
