Infant Crib Sets: Crib Safety is Pivotal

In today’s society everyone likes to throw away their stuff, but there is something special about our baby items that makes us want to keep them. In spite of that, while you are carrying your baby, many people will be lining up to share their used furniture from their nurseries and their old crib bedding. Since babies are a costly undertaking, be thankful for this selection of cribs and bedding for infants. Before using any baby bedding, be sure that it is completely safe.

Whether it is a Moses basket or a crib, your baby’s first crib is the most memorable. You’ll probably be taking some time to refinish the crib if you’ve been given a hand-me-down. If so, this is the perfect time to make sure that the bed is safe. Always check baby bedding to assure safety. Wicker cradles or cribs can chip and splinter very easily so it’s always a good idea to triple check them for sharp edges and it’s always a good idea to replace the mattress because it may not be holding up as well as it should. Babies like to put things in their mouth, so be sure that no loose ends or pieces of material are left over when fitting the skirt.

Baby can be very mischievous so be certain that if within reach your child cannot get hold of material that has any loose threads or other choking hazards. The Juvenile Product Manufacturer’s Association (JPMA) in the USA and British Standards(BS) in the UK concerned about the safety of baby furnitures, warn that new furnitures and bedding should be bought for the crib if possible. JPMA seal of approval or the BS ‘Kite’ mark are the products that you should stick with as they have been extensively tested for safety and meet all requirement guidelines.

Previously used items are fine as long as they still meet safety requirements because it’s economical and environmentally correct to recycle usable baby bedding. There are several reviews you can do on cribs to make sure your baby is safe and happy, after all, the crib is where your baby will be spending most of their time. It’s extremely vital to go over your baby equipment checking for safety issues, and here are some guidelines for you to follow. The most important issue is that of paint, check for lead paint, and any chipped or peeling pieces and that the surface is smooth to the touch to prevent baby’s clothes from catching. Always make sure the bars of the crib are closer than 2 and 3/8 inches apart and the head and foot board of the crib should be solid with no holes, to prevent baby’s head from getting caught between them. If your crib wobbles you must check the joints and fixings to assure that they are tightened. It’s critical that the side rail’s raising and lowering mechanism stays fully secured when raised in place, and one should be able to manage this simple task with one hand. The mattress should be solid and clean and the side rails of the crib should be no less than 22 inches higher than the crib mattress.

A new baby deserves a new mattress that is safe and securely fits into the crib. Nursery bedding that is not well-secured can cause suffocation, so either tie the bumper securely or take it out completely. Babies under the age of 12 months should not have access to the following in their cribs: duvets, quilts, sheepskin or pillows, while use of these items could cause overheating. Keep a thermometer in the room, and try a mixture of blankets and sheets. The crib should not be next to lamps or window blinds, etc Babies grow quick and try to climb.

You can have a wonderful time with your baby that is growing fast.
