How to make Healthy Homemade Baby Food
You may remember very well the first days when your baby started on solid foods. The anxiety and the constant worry you might be doing something wrong. Feeling suspicious of all the packaged food and their ingredients. Given that, it’s not surprising that a lot of new mothers are opting to make their own baby foods at home. This gives the edge of monitoring what goes into their baby’s susceptible tummy.
The process of making baby food at home is quite simple. All you need is a few basic tools available in almost any kitchen such as a blender, food processor, and grinder, pot for boiling and ice cube trays. Start slowly by using only one vegetable or fruit a week and watch out for any allergic reactions. Thaw baby food in the refrigerator or defrost in the microwave. This prevents the food from developing bacteria.
Following are some simple tips for preparing homemade baby food:
- Wash fresh fruits and vegetables carefully.
- Boil fruits and vegetables until soft.
- Go easy on spice.
- Use a blend of 2 fruits for range.
- Strain the pureed fruit if feeding for first time.
- Store pureed food in ice cubes taking them out at meal times thawing at room temperature or using a microwave. You can have weeks of food for your baby prepared in a day.
Some good foods to puree being least acidic, are apples, bananas, pears, peaches, plums, potatoes and peas. Be sure to mix potatoes with water, formula or breast milk and, of course, you will want to choose organic fruits and veggies whenever possible.
