Cure For Blindness? Stem Cell Therapy For Blinds Is Definitely A Streak Of Hope
Eye diseases have been prevalent amongst humans since long. Looking at the major impact that they can have on the human’s it becomes very important that good treatment options be sought out for their cure. Years of research and studies have gone into tests using human embryonic stem cells to cure various degenerative eye diseases.
Scientists have made huge progress by using stem cell therapy to cure diseases in animal models. Testing these experimental cell therapy for blind humans provides some unique challenges. This is something that the scientists wish to try out soon and effectively. There are several challenges which lay in front of scientists when regarding stem cell therapy in humans.
One is proving that the use of Stem Cell For Blinds is safe to try. Another challenge that the body faces is the issue of immune rejection of the transplanted cells. In such cases care is taken . When introducing foreign cells in the body it requires that the patient should take powerful drugs to suppress the immune system, as is the case with organ transplants.
To try the efficiency of the stem cell therapy for blinds and to cure the eye disease the researchers injected RPE cells derived from embryonic-stem-cell lines into the eyes of rats. This was a test set up in order to test the efficiency of their proposed solution towards using stem cell therapy for blinds. These rats had a genetic problem in their RPE that causes their vision to slowly deteriorate. The cured animals performed better in vision tests thereby increasing hope that stem cells for blinds when used in humans could turn out to be a workable solution.
