Are you a recycling veteran? Or just trying to start from something and are looking for some information about recycling? Whoever you are and whatever your purpose, I hope you will find some useful information here.
Actually there are loads of information about recycling, but sometimes you read through a great number of websites, booklets and books in order to understand something, and very often you are still left with the same question: so what actually school I do in order to participate in recycling? I will try to give brief advice on what you should and what you shouldn’t do in order to be an eco-friendly person.
• Try to preserve glass items unbroken till you give them to recycling, because broken glass takes much time to be sorted and the effectiveness of recycling may lessen..
• Never throw away newspapers – put them into a respective recycling bin, and it could be great if you separated newspapers from the rest of paper waste.
• Don’t put metal items into recycling bins if they are dirty – make sure you clean them perfectly before you do that.
• You certainly use lots of plastic items at home very day, so make sure they all get into the respective bin, and don’t forget to check them for a special sign that marks recyclable materials. If there is no sign – than the plastic item you want to get rid of is non-recyclable. Don’t forget that plastic is not only bottles and containers, but also polyethylene bags!
• Paper is a very convenient material to recycle. Recycling of paper prevents global warming, did you know that? Less trees are being cut down when bigger deal of paper is obtained from paper waste, and trees actually help to preserve the ozone layer, which results in the normalization of climate all over the world. At least it can and it will result in this way if we try hard. Paper waste includes mail, magazines, cardboard boxes, old unnecessary books and many others, but it doesn’t include food wrappers. laminated paper, milk cartoons, fax paper and napkins.
• If you have some aluminum to recycle, make sure that it doesn’t have any odd items or parts attached to it. If you have some aluminum at home, try to clear it of everything unnecessary and spare, and only then you can put it into a respective recycling bin.
• Certain types of mobile phone batteries and car batteries can be recycled.
• Other waste products you can recycle are: electronics, cell phones, furniture, eyeglasses and many more, the main thing is their ability to be recycled.

The environment we live in is about ecosystem. Ecosystem is an extremely subtle and complex system of interaction of all the elements of nature. In ideal conditions, if human beings didn’t exist or if they didn’t alter it, the ecosystem would maintain our planet in ideal condition – just the perfect place to live, where air, water and soil are absolutely clean. But the problem is that we do exist and that we do alter the ecosystem in the severe way. Even a minor alteration into nature causes a chainlike set of phenomena which lead to influencing the lives of all organisms. Taking into consideration the damage we make, we are very lucky to be able to normally live and function so far. We are the only living creatures on the planet Earth that do harm to the place we live – in spite of the fact that we are intellectually much more developed, animals don’t do harm to nature in any way. The problem is that most people don’t even realise the fact that they gradually destroy our planet with their own hands by simply disposing the waste products they produce in an inappropriate way.
Luckily there is a decision, and it is very simple and complicated at the same time. You have probably guessed by now that I am speaking about recycling. On our current stage of advancement we certainly won’t be able to refuse all the technologies and conveniences of our life in order to return to nature completely, and recycling is the thing that allows us to improve and preserve the environment we live in, as well as letting us enjoy our technology advancement in full. Most of the waste products we throw away can be used again and again for manufacturing high quality products. Paper, plastic, electronics, different types of metals and glass are just a few of the materials that can be successfully recycled. I am going to stop a bit more on recycling of glass, as it is much less discussed than say recycling of plastic.
Glass is used in production of numerous items we use daily. The process of recycling glass is very special. All the glass delivered to the recycling center must be thoroughly sorted into some categories – transparent, green, amber and other colours. The thing is that colours of glass differ according to the structure of glass that is why different colours of glass can’t be recycled together. Also different types of glass have different heat resistance, which must be also taken into consideration. Glass recycling will eliminate great amounts of landfills, save a lot of energy and raw material used for making glass, which can be preserved for the next generations.

Colorado is a mecca for grid tied Solar Energy Solutions, due to a combination of high sun hours and large consumers of electricity.
“Denver has more sun days then San Diego,” says Richard McCracken, owner of Nth Degree Solar Energy Solutions in Grand Junction, Colorado. Nth Degree Energy has been installing solar systems in the Grand Valley for the last three years, and is seeing a significant increase in business.
The American Recovery and Renewal Act has set aside billions of dollars for renewable energy sources. “Between utility rebates and federal tax rebates, the price per kilowatt of solar energy is now less than the cost of building new coal plants,” Richard points out.
Government mandates directing utility companies to increase the amount of renewable energy they produce has meant higher than average payouts from the power companies themselves. XCEL Energy and Black Hills, the two major electric utility providers in Colorado are both paying up to $2.00 or more per watt for installation cost offset as well as another $1-2 per watt to purchase the green tags that go with the solar energy produced.
Residential customers with a Residential Solar Energy System under 10 kilowatts get a service called net metering. This means the electricity their solar system produces spins the meter backwards, and the power they consume spins forward. At the end of each month, quarter or year, the power company settles up with the customer. “Businesses that use more than 10K of power are really in the sweet spot,” torts Richard.
Many solar companies sell businesses on the higher payout from the utility company to reduce the initial cost, but those businesses that need solar systems in excess of 10 kilowatts have much better return on investment if they keep the green tags for themselves and sell the power back to the utility company. “We call it double dipping,” quips Richard. As the solar engineer for Nth Degree Solar Energy, he was instrumental in creating the business model to show that solar is an investment with great returns, not just a bunch of panels on the roof to offset costs.
“Some people buy solar because it is the right thing to do, but if it also makes solid business sense, then it is a no brainer.” With an ROI over 10% and a payback of less than 5 years, this is a sure bet against inflation and continually increasing price of electricity. Let’s face it; the risk is much lower than the stock market, and the returns are better than the long term average of stocks. Why would you not, as a businessman invest in solar energy?

Recycling is certainly a very progressive and clever idea. But this idea is useless if it isn’t supported and applied by people. The vast amount of all the waste produced on our planet comes from homes where we live. And this means that we are the greatest polluters and that we have to be responsible for that. Most people in the world do not participate in the recycling process and are not even interested in it, while they should. This can be because they simply are unaware of what actually recycling requires from them to do, and they think that it is extremely boring and time consuming. In reality, of course, everything turns out to be visa-versa.
Recycling should be rather considered a fun and exiting process than something boring and unnecessary. And the main reason is – recycling is a surprisingly easy thing, at least what you have to do is easy. Here are some hints and ideas which could help you and your family become much more eco-friendly:
• Encourage your family members with some incentives for actively including recycling habits into their everyday life. Whether it is a small present or an interesting weekend trip – your family will love it and treat recycling much more positively.
• Be creative! You can use waste products in numerous ways. There are lots of people who create masterpieces literally out of trash! You are not demanded to be a genius, just use your imagination – make interesting paper figures or greeting cards out of paper waste, or turn simple plastic bottles into something extraordinary, like flower vases, with the help of scissors and a lighter.
• If your storeroom or/and garage are stuffed with different things you no longer use, it is a very bad idea to throw them away, but it will be a wise decision to make a garage sale. Everyone has probably heard of the wonderful benefits of recycling. We all claim that it is very necessary and useful and that it can save the world but in reality hardly anyone does it. Of course there are many recycling companies which do a lot of invaluable work, but they actually need your help. Here are some facts about recycling that might encourage you to take recycling seriously and responsibly.
• Recycling lowers global warming. If you are interested what recycling has to do with global warming, read the following. Mainly this is about paper recycling. We know that usually paper is made of wood that is got from trees that are being constantly cut down in thousands. Vast majority of people in the world have heard about the importance of recycling and its invaluable benefits. We all claim that we have to be eco-friendly and that only in this case we will be able to live in a better and cleaner world. But unluckily in reality very few people stick to all those recycling habits and rules, and that is a shame.
In fact recycling is easy. All we have to do is help recycling companies by separating different recyclable waste products at our homes, schools, offices, hospitals etc., and disposing of them properly. The rest of the work will be done by specialists. You have just to make some simple steps towards recycling by putting different recyclable products into respective recycling bins instead of throwing away everything mixed together. Don’t forget to look for a sign that marks recyclable products before you put them in a recycling bin. Such materials as plastic, glass, paper and metals can be easily recycled multiple times without a loss in quality. If at least half of the families followed the recycling habits, we could considerably improve the environment we live in.
Just for you to know, I will shortly describe the most important advantages of recycling. First – it lowers and prevents global warming. Global warming is a complicated process to which many factors contribute. Apart from greenhouse emissions of different factories and plants, global warming is caused by the ruthless alteration of nature by us, human beings. We cut down trees in order to make paper, and the amount of tress being cut down is astonishing. If this tendency persists we will soon have nothing to breathe with or life on our planet will become simply impossible. Second – recycling allows to preserve great amounts of natural resources which future generations will need. As the same materials are recycled again and again, there is no immediate need for getting new raw material, which is very time- money- and energy consuming. Third – recycling saves energy, as much less of it is needed to make post-consumer goods than for brand new ones. Fourth – recycling solves the problem of landfills which occupy great areas of land and do great harm to the nearby soil and environment in general.
In spite of the fact that recycling is being popularized now it is not yet a part of our lives. Mass campaigns and educational presentations are performed by eco-friendly organizations, but still it is not enough for an average person to take recycling close to heart and become a part of it. If you are a wise and progressive person you will surely understand the essentiality of recycling and at least try to include it into your life. Such habits and routines take very long periods of time for people to understand and accept, but in fact all such innovations need clever and open-minded people, and I’m sure you are one of them. Be as much eco-friendly as possible – let other people see your diligence and wisdom and follow your example!

Paper recycling is not as popular as say plastic recycling but still it is not less vital. We use paper every day and everywhere, and vast majority of offices are the main consumers of paper. It is very sad that we lose a brilliant possibility to recycle tons of high-quality paper, as in most offices only qualitative paper if used. Instead this high-quality material is transported to dumps and lies uselessly there, not even having a possibility to decay properly since surrounded by tons of other garbage. Consider this an average office employee produces approximately a pound of high-quality paper a day. The advantages of paper recycling are numerous. First they include a considerable decrease in expenses for paper needed for offices, as recycled paper is far cheaper than paper made of raw material. Huge areas of land currently used for landfills can be preserved if offices participate in recycling process. Besides, almost all kinds of paper used in the offices are recyclable.

You have probably heard a lot about the invaluable advantages of recycling. If every single person contributed to this ingenious process, we would now be living in a much better and cleaner world. But unfortunately not that much people re interested in it – they either don’t know what recycling is and how it should help us save the planet, or they just don’t care. But never mind – it’s not our business. Our task is to help people who really want to do something useful. If you want to become a part of this wonderful invention and help other people do it, here are some tips for you.
• Establish a recycling program at home. Start from getting some recycling bins, label them according to the type of recyclable waste products they are later supposed to contain and tell your family members about your intentions.
• Purchase recycled products. Recycling companies need your help not only in gathering the waste products, but also in supporting the fruits of their (and to a great extent your) work. Recycled products cost less and are very high-quality, so there is no reason for you at least not to try.
• Choose what you buy thoroughly. Buying anything for your use you are supposed to pay attention to the products with less packaging, and generally try to choose products which can be easily recycled as waste.
• Refuse using plastic (polyethylene) bags which cause great pollution and instead buy paper ones.
• Don’t throw everything into the garbage bin straightaway. Ask yourself a question whether a thing you want to throw away can be recycled, ands only then make your decision where to put it. Even if you don’t give say plastic bottles for further recycling you may use them for keeping certain things. Try to get as much profit as possible in everything you do.
• In order to decide what types of containers you have to get and what types of garbage you need to separate from the rest, you should contact the local recycling center and ask them for some information.
• Get an aluminum can crusher if you throw away a lot of cans.
• Print whatever you want to print on both sides of paper if possible. Remember that the paper you use now is probably the result of numerous trees being cut down.
• Make sure that food containers you want to get recycled are clean before you put them into a recycling bin.
• Be determined, disciplined and responsible in terms of recycling.
This all may seem hard to remember, but you will see how quickly it all will become your daily habit, by all means a useful and wise one.
