Fundamentally migrants to New Zealand will fall into four distinct categories. There was very little clutter or mess. To work properly it’s not only important to have your office organized but also to have plenty of space in the office itself. 3. Non-work items. Look at your desk. How many of those items are actually required for your work and how many are just useless accessories that got left there over time? Get rid of the items that don’t serve a purpose.

5. Tidy up the wiring. If you’re using a computer and a phone there’s going to be wires hanging all over the place behind or underneath your desk. 6. How much light is in the room is also important. Good lighting will make any office appear more spacious. Always let in as much natural light as possible. In the evenings have plenty of floor or desk lamps to make sure you’re not sitting in the almost black of night while you’re trying to work.
7. Shelving can also be very handy. One or two large shelves in your home office will give you space for printers, fax machines and files. I personally keep my printer on a shelf away from the desk. Why? Because it eats up too much space and I can still reach it from where I sit.

Most people are stunned that babies as young as 30 weeks old can learn sign language, thinking “How can baby sign, when she can’t even talk?” But babies have always signed, albeit on an informal basis. Babies develop the muscles in their hands before they develop the fine muscles of the mouth needed for speeach. Thus, babies are equipped to communicate with you with their arms and hands before they can talk. Most children invent their own signs in order to convey their thoughts. For example, children often hold their arms out when they want to be picked up and held. This, obviously, is a form of communication.
Signing with your child is good for you and your baby. In this column, we examine the effects of teaching baby sign language and some evidence of the benefits of teaching baby sign language. You can be assured, signing with your baby is a great thing.
The fact[\spin] is, a child knows what you are saying long before she is able to speak herself. That is, her “receptive language” develops before she is able to understand. In fact, children understand a great deal before they can talk. So be careful what you say in front of your toddler! Just know, the reason babies don’t talk isn’t necessarily because they don’t understand. It may just be for a lack of the ability to control the movements of the mouth and tongue that are necessary to produce good speech. Those muscles are undeveloped until babies are almost two years old. But at a much earlier age, children can control the hand movement necessary to produce signs. Notwithstanding your child’s overall development, there is a better reason to teach your baby to sign. Sign language allows parents to communicate with their pre-verbal children! The frustration of not understanding what a baby wants or needs is a primary source of the stress in parents’ lives. Those parentswho teach their babies to sign avoid much of this frustration. Plus, a child’s ability to communicate with others at an early age enhances her overall development. Interaction on a social level is crucial to a child’s development progression. By teaching a child sign language, she communicates earlier and more frequently. This provides more outlets for her to express her emotions and communicate with other young people and adults. Food and drinks cans make up around three percent of household waste that is thrown away by households in the UK on a daily basis. Around 75 percent of all drinks cans in the UK are made from aluminium although there are still almost 2 billion drinks cans that are made from steel. Food cans are often called tins because although they are made from steel, they have an ultra thin layer of tin that surrounds them.
If we consider that an average household goes through around 600 steel cans and 200 aluminium cans a year then it isnt hard to imagine the staggering amount of waste that is being generated by each and every one of us annually. We cannot go on burying this waste in landfill sites as the pressure on landfill sites is now nearing capacity and the estimations are that we will run out of space for new landfill sites within the next decade. At the moment, approximately 80 percent of our household waste goes to landfill sites and as the amount of waste we produce is increasing each year we have to find new and creative ways of disposing of our waste. Landfill is no longer a viable option, not only because there isnt any space, but because landfill sites are not pleasant. There are risks associated with landfill that include the risk of explosion and also a risk of leakage of toxic pollutants into the surrounding earth and waterways which can present a health risk.
Basically, landfill sites are a threat to the environment so disposing of our waste in an environmentally friendly way that saves resources, energy and costs should be a matter of concern for all of us. Fortunately, more and more people are waking up to the idea of recycling. Local authorities also recognise the advantages of recycling and so roadside collections and the number of collection banks where you can deposit waste is on the increase.
Why recycle cans
Cans are one of the easiest items to recycle and the fact is, each and every can that ends up in landfill is a waste of a valuable resource and heres why. Producing new metal to make new cans depletes the earth of natural resources, such as iron, coal and water to make steel and bauxite to make aluminium and basically it costs more to produce new metal than it does to recycle it.
For example, recycling aluminium not only uses 95 percent less energy than it does to produce new aluminium if we recycle just 1kg of aluminium it saves 6kg of Bauxite. Similarly, if we recycle 1 tonne of steel it saves 1.5 tonnes of iron ore, half a tonne of coal, and uses 75 percent less energy than it does to make new steel. Cans are also 100 percent recyclable and can be recycled almost indefinitely without any loss of quality to the metal itself. Recycling metal is also a relatively simple process, in fact; it can take as little as six weeks for aluminium cans to be back on the supermarket shelves after collection.
One of the barriers to recycling other materials is the demand for the product. Take plastic for example; it can be cheaper to produce new plastic than to recycle it so there is less of a demand for used plastic. However, there is a great demand for used metal, so much so that there are schemes in operation that will pay you cash for your used aluminium cans.
Another barrier is sorting the waste. Sorting broken bits of glass can be a complex process but sorting aluminium from steel is not difficult. You can tell the difference between aluminium and steel using a simple magnet. If it sticks it is steel, which makes separation of steel very easy as magnets can be used to extract it.
So bearing in mind all the advantages involved in recycling cans, why are any food or drinks cans still ending up in landfill?
How you can make a difference
The truth is that we can all do more to protect the environment if we remember that each can dumped in landfill is a real waste. You can make a difference at home and at work by making sure that your cans are recycled and are not disposed of along with other rubbish. If kerbside collection is not available in your area yet, find out where the nearest collection bank or collection scheme is and deposit your cans there. A significant amount of what we throw in the garbage could be easily turned into a useful product: compost. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 23% of the US waste stream consists of compostable yard trimmings and food scraps. Every time you throw away something like an apple core or some peanut shells, these waste products take up space in landfills, where they emit methane and do not readily biodegrade. In addition to using reusable grocery bags instead of disposable bags, reducing packaging waste and recycling when possible, composting certain waste products can greatly reduce the amount that ends up in landfills, while at the same time creating a valuable resource. According to the US EPA, mature compost used on a large scale can promote higher crop yields, facilitate reforestation, remediate contaminated soil and decrease the need for chemical fertilizers. On a small scale, such as in your home gardening, mature compost serves as a free fertilizer and promotes disease resistance in plants.
If you don’t have a yard or don’t do any indoor or outdoor gardening, you can still find a use for your compost. Many local governments will collect it through their yard waste programs or you can advertise on local bulletin boards and find a local gardener or club that will gladly take it off your hands.
Beside meat, dairy, and oil products, most food scraps can be composted in open heaps outside or covered bins inside. Even non-food items like hair, clean paper, tea, and pine needles can be added to the mix. Composting is as simple as tossing the materials in a bin and “managing” the pile by turning it over every week or so. Mature compost can be identified by it’s earthy-smelling, dark, and crumbly state. Original materials should not be recognizable. A mature compost can be used as fertilizer “as-is” without making any additions or changes to the material. Most compost takes a couple of months to mature, although some can take longer or could be faster, depending on what is in the compost. A quick search on the web for “how to compost” will point you in the direction of numerous resources with more than enough information to get started.
If you’re already making efforts to improve our environment by using reusable shopping bags and recycling the materials that you can, it may be time to consider taking another simple step at home and try composting. Mother Earth will thank your grandchildren.

Amid all the news that mortgages are unavailable or ridiculously expensive, house prices are dropping and homes are being repossessed, it seems not all property is on a downward spiral. In fact, in London, where the big money is, the demand for property is increasing, particularly around Battersea and Docklands.
Developments are going up all over the place and most are sold well before completion. How is this so? Property developers are selling ‘off plan’. Land is a precious commodity in London and buying up even a relatively small piece can see you with a very tidy income once planning is agreed. Investors are keen for a quick turnaround of profits, buying while a discount is possible and selling on as soon as the development is complete. With the demand for accommodation in London as high as it is, they can also afford to hang on to these places for a high rental yield while they wait for property prices to rise again. Is it just investors that want to buy property off plan? No - there are many owner-occupiers who have caught onto this way of buying a property. If you get it in the early stages of development it is possible to negotiate on deposits, prices and even finished spec.
So, what is off plan and how can you get one?
A developer will buy up a piece of land and secure planning permission on a proposed development. Hoardings will be erected around the land advertising what we can expect to see in the future and contact details. A plush marketing suite will be installed and a push will begin to start selling the properties.
But how can you buy a property that looks like a patch of mud? This is where clever computer graphics comes in with CGI. You can haggle over discounts at this stage and once you have acquired the property the price will probably have increased for you to obtain a quick turnover and decent profit for little outlay. Exchange of contracts will happen quite quickly followed by a completion date. You will have a period of around two weeks to carry out a ’snagging’ visit to the property to determine any faults that you want corrected before everything is signed and sealed. Do you have a child that wants to build something all the time? Then bring them to the Children’s Discovery Museum where they can go to the Engineering/Construction/Transportation Exhibit and learn all about the process of building. They can explore the world of drafting or engineering. Maybe they want o be running a survey crew or design roads to get them where they want to go. This exhibit will be just perfect for them and a relief for you!
If you child enjoys music then the Multi Cultural Center is for them. The opportunity to play the African drums or learn about a tambourine will keep them happy for a little while anyway.
There is also a reading room where they can sit back with a book and read about all the exciting things between the covers. It is also a comfortable room for Mom and Dad.
Your Maine vacation may be filled with wonderful sites and adventures but a trip to the Museum may be the best part of the trip for your kids.

In today’s world we need to be cognizant that every action we take can (and often does) have a tremendous impact on the earth. Think about the Styrofoam container the food comes in as well as the plastic utensils, paper napkins, cups, straws and bag. This way you will be prepared if asked “paper or plastic?” You can answer “neither, I brought my own bag, thank you.” And the world will thank you in return.
